Bootcamp Overview
The 2017 Tableau for Data Visualization bootcamp will run Monday, May 1 through Thursday, May 4. Bootcamp begins at 9:00am at North Quad, room 2255. Lunch (on your own) will be from 12:00 to 1:00, and the camp will end at 4:00pm, with some office hours after.
The first two days of the bootcamp we will provide a mix of mini-lectures, self-guided learning, and structured tasks to teach you how to create various charts in Tableau and combine them into interactive dashboards. The second two days of the bootcamp we will work on our own and in teams to create and critique dashboards using unique datasets. Plan to leave this bootcamp with working interactive dashboards, the skills needed to use Tableau, and an online resource you can reference when visualizing data for future projects.

What to Bring
For this bootcamp, come prepared with:
- Your own laptop with Tableau installed. Plan to install the student version of Tableau a few days in advance of the bootcamp to ensure you have access by May 1.
- Go to https://www.tableau.com/academic/students
- Click ‘Get Tableau for Free’.
- Fill in the required information, including your university email.
- You will need to upload one of the following forms of documentation to help Tableau verify your current enrollment status. Document must include your first/last name, school name, and date of validity:
- ID card with expiration date in the future
- Transcript with current course schedule
- Other school-issued document
- Your own dataset. For the second half of the bootcamp, you will be creating your own dashboards with a unique dataset of your choosing. You can pick from sample datasets at https://public.tableau.com/s/resources?qt-overview_resources=1 or bring your own dataset from work or class (if bringing data from work, do not bring PHI or restricted data). If you are unsure about your dataset, feel free to ask at the bootcamp.
